Cadets - Semi Finals

COMET CADETS – MAJOR SEMI
Our Cadets (2nd) took on the Alexanders (1st) in the major semi final today in a friendly, well-spirited game.
The highly fancied Alexanders didn’t have it all their own way with the Cadets matching them goal for goal in the 1st quarter, only letting Alexanders score a late goal to lead at quarter time by 1. With no reserves, a freaky eye injury to Sahar took her off court for a minute or two with Nurse Helen uncurling the eyelid that had turned inside out. Gutsy effort Sahar to go back on and play a super game. Lia 4 goals / Katherine 2 goals.
2nd quarter took us down the windier end of Court 21 (right on the water). We let our guard slip for just for a few minutes and Alexanders took advantage skipping ahead in a 4 goal burst. Handovers at the centre pass proved expensive and soft passes into the gusty breeze resulted in intercepts. Rachel in Ctr was having a great game whilst Lia (4) and Katherine (1) were working well in the circle. Comets 11 – Alexanders 17 half time score.
Anna and Katherine were working tirelessly in defence against the superior height of the Alexanders GS. The Alexanders GA and GS are sharp-shooters and our defence was working overtime holding them to 9 goals in the 3rd quarter. Melody in WD supported them well being a nuisance to the Alexanders attack. Well done ladies.
The Cadets were playing lovely netball with Rachel and Sahar feeding the circle for Lia (7) and Katherine (2) to match the quarter with 9 goals of our own. ¾ Time Cadets 20 – Alexanders 26.
Some soft turnovers in the 4th again proved costly and the Alexanders stepped up a notch working fast channels down the centre we found difficult to shut down. We were outplayed in the 4th by 3 (Lia 2 / Katherine 1) goals to their 10 but pleasing to see was our effort to the end.
So a do or die final next week against Dundas where I hope we can continue the form we displayed today. Coach and parents really proud of the effort, well done.
