Cure Our Kids Carnival

Congratulations to all our parents who managed to survive a typical Melbourne day!
Without a doubt our girls proved that they have enthusiasm PLUS because we started with wet courts, then came the light shower, then came the heavy down pour then came the short but dumping download of rain. Did our girls worry about that ... NO ... not in the slightest. To top it all off, the chill factor was enough for me to don the ever attractive Dry As a Bone coat and I was still cold! Not our girls though … nothing stopped them from achieving their objective … to have a whole heap of fun!
We fielded 4 teams - 13s, 12s, 9/10s and 8/9s and at one point I noticed the 9/10s had enough to play against themselves. Girls came, girls went, parents scurried between courts to see both daughters play, umpires kept great control and coaches did exceptionally well to get the girls on as much as possible.
Cure our Kids does great work and your support went a long way to helping them. The spirit of the day was not dampened by the rain and club spirit saw teams meld without worrying about who played where or how good/bad the combinations were. I am always proud of our girls and without a doubt feel privileged to have such enthusiastic volunteers like Giulia, Susan, Judith, Colette who willing take on the huge organisational task of trying to give our girls equal court time. Thanks to our stalwart umpires – Josh, Simon, Lucy and Sahar – who kept our games clean. Not to be forgotten though … I really want to thank our parents because days like yesterday can make attending events like that questionable particularly when there are probably a million other things that you could be achieving instead. THANK YOU!!!
One last thank you to the Brownlows who organised that fantastic tent because having a dry place to stand became very important. I usually worry about heat exhaustion … not yesterday!
Congratulations to our 12’s who were winners of their division and the 13’s who were runners up. You contested some tough games with great competitiveness and still managed to enjoy the day for its true purpose ... Girls just wanna have fun!
Thanks everyone for contributing to such a great cause. One day like yesterday can change a great many days for kids with cancer.
