Week 15 – Comets 9’s -v- Epping YMCA

posted August 11, 2012 by Colette Grundy - viewed 357 times

What an awesome and nail biting finish to a very exciting season for this young team with players ranging from 7 to 9 years old.

The girls have continued to thrive under Elaine and Debbie’s patient tutoring and sincere thanks to them both for volunteering their time and sharing the journey of the 9’s continued improvement, success and fun.

Our first game against Epping YMCA was a 4 all draw in week 12 and despite the awfully windy conditions yesterday, our shooters still managed 11 goals to Epping’s 8 goals.

This was entirely due to exceptional teamwork, with Carla and Bec creating an impenetrable defence and turnovers, Marie, Jaz and Alicia in the mid field showing outstanding skill with intercepts and chasing down loose balls, together with Mikayla and Abbey throwing some perfectly placed and strong passes. The play moved from one end to the other constantly and the final whistle couldn’t come quickly enough with the crowd cheering loudly each time a goal was scored by both teams.

Blessed with some highly skilled all round players, players with strength in a particular area and solid support players, this team is such an amazing combination and I look forward to seeing all the girls continue their performance next year on the hard courts at Brush Farm.

A very well deserving Player of the Match this week was awarded to Rebecca.

Finally, a huge thank you to the 8’s for lending us so many players to fill the gaps so that we never had to play short.
