COMET CADETS – WEEK 11
In the world of social media where teenagers talk daily on facebook or sms in addition to club and ERNA websites, I’m amazed that players don’t know when a game is on. So when three players from a team of eight don’t turn up and we are due to play the top team, things are scary. A very big thank you to Lucy, Jessica and Saira from the 15’s, along with Debbie, for letting them play with us, so the Cadets could field a full team.
It was a top of the table clash (we’re 2 points behind Alexanders) and Lucy and Jess just slotted in beautifully 1st quarter. Lucy in WA providing solid options for Rachel in Centre, both in turn providing strong passes into the circle for Lia (5) and Manny (3) to outscore
the Alexanders (4).
Lucy returned to the 15’s and Saira came on in WA for the 2ndquarter. Whilst the Alexanders were without their regular shooters, Katherine (GD) and Verity (GK) in defence along with Jessica in WD had strong games making it difficult for the Alexanders attack
to gain any momentum. We held them to three goals and we scored six (Lia 5 /
Manny 1). Half-time Comets 14 – Alexanders 7.
Anna arrived and Jessica returned to 15’s with a big thank you for her efforts. The wind picked up at Meadowbank making shooting a little more difficult and the defence on both teams tightened a notch with Lia (4) and Manny (1) still working well to keep the Comets ahead. The Alexanders managed only 2 goals. Q3 Comets 19 – Alexanders 9.
Rachel was having a ripper of a game in Ctr and was the very worthy recipient of their nomination for MVP. Well done Rachel. The Alexanders came out hard in the 4thand our defensive effort held firm with Katherine and Verity having super games. Anna providing a great option from our centre pass.
They put 6 goals on us in Q4 against our 5 (Lia 4 / Manny 1) however, we had done enough to win the game and take equal 1stplace on points, 2ndon fore and against.
Final Score : Comets 24– Alexanders 15.
Well done ladies, a good win and a confidence boost as we are most likely going to meet this team in the finals.
