Hi everyone
Practice begins again this week so please try to be on time for your session.
Our first game back is Saturday so please contact your manager and let her know that you will be there.
There are only 4 games left before Semi Finals begin for Meadowbank Park competition. At this point in time, 5 of our teams look like making it … D grade, Cadet 6, 13/2, 12/1 and 12/2’s. Should the 11/3’s win their last games, they too might get the opportunity to play Semi Finals. Keep practicing those goals girls because you beat 2nd placegetter, you have a bye and there is no reason why you can’t beat the other teams too.
This year’s achievement is outstanding considering that only 8 of our 12 teams are eligible to play finals (11yo – senior). We could potentially have 50-75% of our (competition) teams in finals. That’s the nature of any sport … you never know how the competition will end until the last game is over. So, everyone … work hard and let’s make those last 4 games count!
One very important (and not so nice) housekeeping matter that really needs to be addressed is that we came very close to having a team fined last game because parents did not let the team manager know before Friday afternoon that their daughter could/might not be able to play.
IF YOUR CHILD IS SICK OR UNABLE TO PLAY DURING THE NEXT 4 WEEKS please let your team manager know what is going on by Friday afternoon. It is NOT acceptable to send a text or call on Saturday to advise that your daughter won’t be coming. By that time, it’s way too late and if the team has less than 5 players, the team will have to forfeit and the team will incur a $110 fine. The other side to being fined is that the team cannot play until the fine is paid. I am quite confident that nobody wants that so …
IF YOUR CHILD IS SICK OR UNABLE TO PLAY DURING THE NEXT 4 WEEKS please make sure that you let your team manager know by Friday afternoon … not the coach. Your manager will contact the coach.
It was very pleasing for me to see our 8’s, 9’s and 10/3’s play recently. Those teams all have new coaches and the thing that impressed me most was that our girls don’t step much, passing has improved and there was a heap of fun happening everywhere! The girls are all still learning basics (catch, pivot, throw and run to an open space) and there has been HUGE improvement from their first practice session. Our new coaches are learning as much as our girls and they are all doing a fantastic job. Great work everyone! Thanks also to parents for sharing your time and thoughts with me. It was nice to meet you. Brush Farm will play 1 extra week at the end of the season to play Round 1, so please keep 11th August available.
The 11/3’s are also one of our newer teams with only 3 having played competition previously. One of the most rewarding things for me was to have one of my 15 Rep girls (from another club) volunteer to coach these girls on Saturday. The best part though, is that since I haven’t been around, the girls are winning! So … thank you Georgia for coming on board and leading our girls to victory. You know my expectations and to date you have never let me down … on or off the court! I will come and watch this Saturday … shame you have a bye.
We have 3 new umpires who have recently completed the Umpiring Development Program … Sahar, Christy and Sandy. Congratulations girls. They are being mentored by other Comet umpires and the committee are already planning to increase the number of outside mentors for 2013 to put our umpires on the pathway to national accreditation. Janine … you’ve done an outstanding job as Convener and we are all very grateful for your time and encouragement to all our umpires.
We’ve had quite a few new coaches step up and provide leadership for our girls this year. Thanks to Libby, Lucy, Elaine, Jaimie, Taylor, Pam, Georgia and Angelique. Thanks also to Judith who although not new to coaching, is new to Comets. Christy and Sandy will be rotating umpiring with coaching. A big thank you to Nicole who has in her first year as Coaching Convener, had one heck of a job finding coaches for all our teams this year and encouraging them to pursue accreditations. It’s a tough gig, but you and I both had the same netball mentor so I know you’re up to the challenge!
For those who are new to our club, I hope that you have enjoyed your first season of netball with Comets. News of our Presentation Day will be released shortly so that you can save the date.
While you may not have met all of your committee I want you to know that they are all 100% committed your girls becoming better netballers and provide opportunities for our coaches and umpires to pursue accreditation pathways. Our coaches challenge our girls to challenge themselves and encourage them to be awesome, not ordinary. We are one of the few clubs that has male umpires and coaches and although we have only 12 teams, we now have 15 coaches, 10 umpires and to top it off we provided 3 coaches to ERNA’s coaching program this year. The ongoing success of this club is a result of like-minded committee that work together as a team. Many in this club know that TEAM means Together Everyone Achieves Magic! Thank you to Giulia, Susan, Sharon, Jo, Janine, Nicole and Peter who all like to tell me what to do and where to go. As always … it’s been fun!
Just one more thing …. a very, very special mention to our Webmaster who provides us with a communication tool that no other club in this association can rival. Thanks Philip … you rule Man! You have given a new meaning to the word AWESOME.
Let’s make these last 4 weeks count (5 weeks for Brush Farm). Don’t take our eye off the ball … or our competition. Go forth and be FABULOUS!
Hope to see you all courtside soon
