COMET CADETS – WEEK 7
With windy conditions making it tough for both teams, our Cadets
took advantage of a relatively week opposition in Santa Sabina and put into
play some fantastic transitions and 4-pass goal plays.
Our shooters Manny (6) and Lia (5) quickly made allowances
for the blustery winds even passing within range so shots were not made into the
wind. Good combinations and clever play today ladies, well done. Q1 Comets 11 –
Santa 2.
With Rachel away sick, Sahar played Ctr for a full game and
controlled the tempo to a pace Santa found difficult to match. Captaining the
team, Sahar played with her usual enthusiasm and along with Melody having a
good game in WA, these two linked the transition from defence into attack really
well.
Our girls minimised turnovers by not lob passing in the
strong wind and even for a short time when we only had six players on court, we
held Santa to only one goal and scored 7 (Lia 5 / Manny 2) against them. Half
time Comets 18 – Santa 3.
Our defensive trio of Verity, Katherine and Anna were up to
their usual miserly ways, all three having strong games preventing Santa from
even entering their goal circle in many cases. So dominant were our defensive three that they
held Santa scoreless in the entire second half whilst Lia (9) and Manny (2)
landed 11 goals between them. Q3 Comets 29
– Santa 3.
I challenged the team to a 12 goal final quarter. They all
rallied behind the target, minimised their errors and worked hard to turn back possession
our way to allow Manny (4) and Lia (8) to reach the target with about a minute
to spare. Good discipline today ladies and well played in tough conditions. Final
Score : Comets 41 – Santa 3.
At the end of Round 1, we sit in 2nd place by 4
points, only 2 points off the lead.
Our thanks to all the parents today for doing the rostered
duties and Shashi for scoring…. and of course, the team looking fabulous for
their photo. (Thanks Mark and Nicole).
