COMET CADETS – WEEK 6
Our Cadets took on Woolwich today on a beautiful morning
down at Meadowbank.
Our shooters Manny (6) and Katherine (5) were on the mark
right from the first whistle and Rachel and Sahar were working our channel play
perfectly. A couple of loose throw-ins turned soft possession over allowing
Woolwich to score a number of goals they otherwise shouldn’t have had the
opportunity to score. At one stage it was 5 all and then the girls clicked and
dominated the rest of the quarter. Q1 Comets 11 – Woolwich 5.
Melody captained the team for the 1st time and
worked hard to spoil Woolwich ball and turn possession back to the Comets. Keep
up the good work Melody. We removed the soft turnovers from our game in the 2nd
qtr with Anna and Verity in defence making the Woolwich shooters work extra
hard for the few goals they scored.
The defensive effort from all eight players today was
impressive and is pleasing to see from a coach’s perspective. Katherine (4) and
Lia (5) combined upfront for the 1st time and worked well in the circle.
The girls created space timing their drives perfectly. Half time Comets 20 – Woolwich
10.
Q3 was almost a mirror of Q2 with both teams playing good
netball, our girls pressing home the advantage by securing some good turnovers.
Manny (5) and Lia (4) pushed well into the circle being provided quality ball
from Rachel and Sahar. Q3 Comets 29 – Woolwich
15.
The last quarter and our Cadets closed out the game with strong
defence across the whole court only allowing Woolwich 2 goals. Anna, Katherine
and Verity just superb. Rachel was having a great game and was the worthy
winner of the MVP. Our super-sub Katherine received on-court applause for some super
defensive play and we all agreed was the team award winner today .
Manny (4 / 15 total) and Lia (6/15 total) hit their 10 goal
Q4 commit, both having sound shooting games. Coach and parents really happy
with how they’re playing, their channels and their increased fitness bringing
them home.
Final Score : Comets 39 – Woolwich 17.
Our thanks to Leisha and Gill for managing the sideline
checks and balances.
