COMET CADETS – WEEK 5
On a blustery morning down at Meadowbank the Cadets played Dundas
United who were equal 2nd to us but held a 1 goal point
differential. Strong flat passes in the wind were required and our girls
adapted to the conditions early scoring 8 goals (Lia 6 / Manny 2) to Dundas’s
3.
Rachel and Sahar again swapping between Ctr and WA, were dominating
the mid and forward thirds providing clean ball into the goal circle whilst
turning Dundas possession over, back the Comets way. Rachel won our team award whilst Sahar was
nominated MVP. Well done ladies. Q1 Comets 8 – Dundas 3.
Melody is finding a home at WD and was shadowing her WA like
glue upsetting Dundas’s drives down court, well done Melody. Our other three
defenders in Verity, Anna and Katherine continue to impress with their
defensive skills (only 4 goals against us in the 1st half) and threw
strong, flat passes back down court.
Just to show us her
versatility, Katherine played GS for Q2 landing 5 much-needed goals. Manny’s
opposite possessed super long arms and caused Manny a few shooting headaches
today. We discussed a higher arch to the shot and will work on this at training.
Half time Comets 14 – Dundas 4.
Dundas were determined and came out in Q3 a lot tighter in
defence. The conditions settled and both teams toiled away up and down the
court with not many goals scored (Lia 2 / Manny 1). Q3 Comets 17 – Dundas 8.
The last quarter and Dundas again came out hard and fortunately,
their aggressive contact penalties were captured by the umpires. Wanting to win
the quarter, our attitude stayed strong with both teams trading goals until the
very end when Dundas scored a goal on the bell to win the quarter 6 – 5 (Lia 5)
but not the game. Our Cadets played well as a team and are enjoyable to watch.
Final Score : Comets 22 – Dundas 14. A good win today but mmm, the team song at the end is a bot dodge and needs some fine tuning.
Our thanks to Leisha and Gill for managing the sideline
checks and balances.
