10/1's - Week 4

posted May 5, 2012 by Susan Brownlow - viewed 346 times

All the girls were eager to play this week after a BYE last week. We played Carlingford Flames 26 and the girls had a close and exciting game to win 7/6. Our first quarter the girls played strongly and their intercepts and wonderful defense kept the Flames scoreless, while Tanisha scored 2 goals for Comets. Our passing has improved from last game and the girls are trying to keep to their sides of the court and learn more positional play.

During the 2 nd quarter the play evened up with both teams scoring 1 goal each. The girls kept fighting to get the ball and did have more attempts at goal than Flames.

In the 3 rd quarter Tarsha, Alanah and Genevieve played well in the mid court and gave Elicia and Tanisha the opportunity to score 2 more goals for Comets. Tarsha’s intercepts and smart positional play around the goal circle were brilliant. The Flames also scored 2 goals and at the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 5/3 to Comets.

After a few position changes the girls were eager to get back on the court and finish the game. Jyothi and Tanisha worked well together to score 2 more goals however the Flames managed to score 3 goals of their own, making it a very close finish. The 2 coaches and all our supporters were pleased to hear the final whistle blow.

Elicia was our Captain today and scored 1 goal. Jyothi was awarded our McDonald’s Sports Award for 2 strong quarters as WD and 1 as GS, also scoring 1 goal. Tanisha was awarded the MVP Award (Most Valuable Player) by the other team. Tanisha scored 5 goals this week and moved beautifully around the court and especially the goal circle. Her smart positional play this week was lovely to watch. Keep up the shooting practice Tanisha!

Next week we will have a challenging game against West Ryde Rovers 36 and we will be playing on Court 2.

Genevieve will be our Captain and can bring fruit or a treat for after the game.
