COMET CADETS – WEEK 3
The Cadets took on YMCA this morning who unfortunately
started the game with only 5 players. A sixth turned up but YMCA had an uphill
battle against our Cadets who are playing well and settling nicely into their
combinations.
We took advantage of YMCA’s short numbers and Lia (11) found
her range early. Manny (1) supported her nicely in the circle. Sahar as Ctr and
Rachel in WA played down the channels and controlled the pace of the game to
our liking. Even against short numbers, we wanted to do our basics well in
readiness to face a stronger opposition. Melody came off with a suspected ankle injury,
ably replaced by Anna. Q1 Comets 12 – YMCA 3.
Our defensive trio of Verity, Katherine and Anna dominated
YMCA holding them scoreless in both the 2nd and 3rd
quarter. These three gel beautifully in defence, with height, intercepts and
strong passes, returning the ball
quickly down court. Well played today ladies. We lost a little momentum in Q2 with
Lia (2) and Manny (4), Manny however starting to find her range. At half time
Comets 18 – YMCA 3.
Manny captained the team today and built on her tally with
another 5 goals. Lia took a rest allowing Katherine to step-up to GA. Katherine
slotted in beautifully jumping for rebounds and scoring 5 goals herself. Well
done Katherine, a full game up front for you next week. Melody came back on and
made strong, crisp passes just as required. Good work Melody. Q3 Comets 28 – YMCA 3.
Rachel and Sahar continued to dominate the mid/forward court
playing strong games. Manny had strong court presence and her best shooting
game with another 7 goals (game total 17) and winner of the MVP award today. Lia
chimed in for another 8 goals (game total 21) and won the team award today.
Final Score : Comets 43 – YMCA 5.
We take on the top
team next week (we DO NOT have a bye) so need a good, solid training session.
See you all Tuesday.
Our thanks as always to Leisha and Gill for managing the
sideline checks and balances.
