COMET CADETS – WEEK 2

It was nice to see some fine weather this morning at Meadowbank where we took on North Ryde RSL.

We skipped out to a good early lead with Lia (5) and Manny (2) finding their range early. Without Anna today, Melody pushed back to WD joining the defensive duo of Katherine and Verity where we held North Ryde to just 3 goals in the first quarter.  Q1 Comets 7 – RSL 3.

With no reserves the team wanted to reduce the tempo of the game to a speed they could sustain and control. A quick shuffle between Rachel and Sahar (Ctr / WA) and control the game they did really well. Lovely forward movement through the channels provided lots of scoring opportunities in Q2 with Lia (7) and Manny, having one of her best shooting games (6). At half time Comets 20 – RSL 7.

Lia captained the team and at half-time we discussed controlling the quarter and doing our basics well. Lia continued shooting well for another 8 goals and although Manny’s count dried up, plenty of good assists through the goal circle so well done Manny. Melody shadowed her opposite WA really well today coming up with a number of spoils and also a joint winner of the team award. Well done Melody.   Q3 Comets 28 – RSL 9.

It’s great to see the game played with smiles and their faces and in good spirit. Whilst the RSL defence wasn’t fantastic, there was opportunity to game play some things we work on at practice. Verity and Katherine didn’t relax their efforts at all, actually keeping RSL scoreless in the last quarter. Super effort ladies.

Rachel was providing fantastic forward momentum as always with Manny scoring 5 more goals (game total 13). Lia scored another 7 goals (game total 27 and joint team award winner).  

Final Score : Comets 40 – RSL 9.

Sahar was voted MVP after having a super game.
