Week 1 - 11/3's

posted April 1, 2012 by Debbie Frankenberg - viewed 498 times

With the exception of Phobe and Christina, this was the first day of competition for Elise, Caitlin, Kaitlin, Ann and Kate.  We played Ermington United who have played together for quite a few years and score reflected that.   Do I care about the score .. Nope!

During practice my focus has been on showing the girls how to catch, pivot, throw and run to an open space.  When they got to a game, they had to work out where they could go (and not go).  Some did not know that you're not supposed to do certain things or what the umpire meant by "out of play", but that really didn't matter because as the quarters unfolded, the girls just got better and better.  When we got our 2 goals, you could have heard the cheers in Melbourne!

All of our 11/3's were AWESOME!!!   There was a lot more confidence at the end of the game than at the beginning and that's what the only aim that I have for our newest players.  The rest will come over time.

Thanks Jenny for (unwittingly) volunteering to Manage the team.  She learned that when I asked for a volunteer to put their hand up to be Manager, it wasn't a good time to scratch her head ..... :-D

Phoebe's constant strong defence won her MVP and she was an inspiration to the others.  Congratulations to all of you for playing so well and I am incredibly proud of all of you.

Practice on Tuesday please.
