COMET CADETS – WEEK 1
We have 8 players. One couldn’t play today (you need to give
me at least 24 hours’ notice please) and we were potentially short one due to a
dental issue. Thanks to Jess from the 15’s who ran across to fill in but in the
end, we fielded 8.
So on a beautiful morning at Meadowbank for Week 1, we took
on the Gladesville Ravens 8 who have been a bit of a nemesis teem for us since
we lost the grand final to them a few years ago. We started well with Lia (5) and
Manny (3) outscoring the Ravens 2. First game and the defensive trio of
Katherine, Anna and Verity did an awesome job protecting their goal. Q1 Comets
8 – Ravens 2.
A quick forced shuffle and with Manny off the court
temporarily, Katherine slotted into GS and landed 4 goals. Lia maintained her
form with 5 goals. We were down a WD so the girls slowed the tempo until Manny
came back on and completed our 7. At half time Comets 17 – Ravens 6.
Rachel captained the team today controlling the court from
Centre. Rachel also controlled the tempo perfectly and Melody, had a really
good game first up. Well done Melody. Katherine scored another 2 goals and Lia 4
goals against the Ravens 3. Again our back third defense was super and Verity –
a nice strong game. Q3 Comets 23 – Ravens 9.
Last year we would have one bad quarter each game so we discussed
working hard to win or at least draw the last quarter. The girl’s attitude was
fantastic as the Ravens became a touch frustrated even giving away the 1st
Umpire Discretion Penalty I have seen in netball. Our fitness levels held as
the teams traded goal for goal with the Comets edging ahead 8 goals (Lia 4 /
Manny 4) to the Ravens 7. Lia – good percentage shooting today and Manny – not
a bad start at all.
Final Score : Comets 31 – Ravens 16.
Anna was voted MVP after having a super game and Katherine
was our team choice.
Our thanks as always to Leisha and Gill for managing the
sideline.
A great start to the season, well done but
è
we WILL be training
next Tuesday.
