Hi everyone
We are days away from starting netball and as you are aware, there are some things that we need to address to ensure that our season continues from this Saturday to the end of Week 10.
A special shout out to Janine who rosters all our umpires for Comets and other clubs and to Susan who has been doing all the admin to get us on court. Loving your work Ladies! xo xo (socially distanced kiss/hugs of course!)
Comets Managers are our frontline leaders and your gateway to Comets Committee. We thank each of them from the bottom of our Comet netball socks for everything they have helped us with thus far and for what they are about to do for our club in 2020. Please work with Managers to make weeks 1 to 10 viable. If you are unsure or uneasy about something, please approach your Manager privately.
There are 2 documents that seniors and parents need to read and understand. Both hold important information. This message and the required docoments and maps have been sent to your email.
To make 2020 “work” for everyone, we must adopt a “get on – get off – go home” attitude. It’s a “no frills, no siblings, limited spectators” kind of season and we hope that parents of our players are comfortable with our proposals.
Before you leave home
·
Cut nails
·
Take off all jewellery … the only things that can be taped are wedding rings and medical alert bracelets. If you weren’t born with that jewellery then off it must come!
·
Fill up your water bottle.
·
Have a bag for water bottle and jacket. Write name on it.
·
No food allowed on courts. Eat at home.
·
Junior players ... please write the Venue (A or B) and Court Number on hand.
·
Use the loo before you leave.
·
Plan for horrible parking scenarios.
·
Don’t panic if things just aren’t working. Breathe in. Breathe out. It’s going to be OK. We are here to help you.
At the courts
·
Use the Entry and Exit points only. Do not cross the tape. Please follow the instructions.
·
Arrive on time; leave immediately at the end of the game.
·
Don’t move between courts or venues please.
·
At the end of the game, leave the courts immediately.
·
Let’s get through week 1 and see how we can improve things.
The greatest issue that we all face is the number of people at each venue
so, please don’t be offended when we ask each team to roster the accompanying parent on/off the sidelines. It is important that we support all the hard work that ERNA has done to get our players, coaches and umpires on court. It is imperative that each venue be under 500 and while we cannot control what other clubs do, together we can make Comets part of the solution to keep venues under target numbers.
We would really like each team to have maximum 4 spectators plus Scorer/Manager on the sideline of each game. We understand this may seem unpalatable, but you can view the game from a grassed area surrounding designated “venues”. Please remember that we must all use the designated Entry and Exit points only.
Week 1 will be hard for everyone, especially our juniors so if you feel the above proposal is untenable, please contact your manager privately to explain your situation. Work with your Manager to take turns each week at being the team Scorer. Designate 2 parents to take pictures and post it on your WhatsApp group. Share commentary on your WhatsApp group about someone else’s child. We can make this work to stay involved.
It is not an offence to take photos at a public venue. You have a right to create memories of and for your child. Just don’t be weird or creepy. Let the other Manager know because every now and then, there is a child that for legal reasons cannot be photographed. Comets have had that experience in the past.
The key to continuation of games each week is to be under 500 participants. The most important thing is that all our girls, little and big, get to play netball. We will get through 2020 if we work as a team.
At Comets, the word TEAM stands for “Together Everyone Achieves Magic. Let the magic begin!
